Carlsbad's Food & Drink Scene

Bring a Cavernous Appetite to Carlsbad!

All the people who come to this friendly little town in order to see one of America’s great scenic wonders sooner or later get hungry. You’ll be amazed by the food scene in Carlsbad with something for almost every taste. Most places to eat are conveniently located near to US 280 as it winds through the city.

One thing you’ll notice about Carlsbad is not only the great food but also the wonderful atmosphere created in many of these establishments. The Trinity Hotel Restaurant was originally the First National Bank built in 1892. It was renovated in the early 2000s and turned into a restaurant and a hotel. They also have an expresso bar and wine tastings in the afternoons. A little further down Canal Street is YellowBrix which is housed in a beautiful adobe hacienda with a patio that is perfect for outdoor dining in the summertime. If you are looking for some really authentic roadside attractions, try the No Whiner Diner or Happy’s, two local landmarks with plenty of character. Finally no stop in Carlsbad is complete without breakfast at the Blue House Bakery and Café.

There is also great ethnic fare around town. The aptly named Junior’s Burritos and Mexican Food on US 62 at the river, Mi Casta and La Juanita Mexican Cuisine and Grill are a few of many fine restaurants that serve up excellent Tex-Mex fare. The Dragon China and the Bamboo Garden sit on the southern end of Canal Street and are known for its lunch buffet.

And if you're craving smoked meats you definatley want to make the stop at Red Chimney BBQ on N Canal.  A Carlsbad institution, they've been "Smokin since 1954" and are consistently rated best among a number of fine barbecue joints in town.
